Auld Lang Syne

Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005 @ 12:12 p.m.

Well, it's the last day of 2005. I'm a complete sentimental sap, and the last anything always gets me choked up.

Well, this year has been good, albeit stressful at times. But then again, when is there ever a year that passes completely smooth-sailing? I guess part of the reason why I'm especially sad that 2005 is over is that my safety blanket is now gone. 2005 was all nice and warm and safe in terms of my academic future as well as my future with French Fitch. 2006, on the other hand, is completely uncertain, with much more things that can go horribly wrong compared to previous new years. I guess only time will tell. It could still be a year of great surprises for all I know... and I'm sure as hell not going to spend the final hours of 2005 being pessimistic about 2006.

French Fitch and I originally had planned to do something for New Year's weekend. It started with going on a ski trip, but that turned to trash because they didn't have one single flake of real snow fall on the nearest slope to us. All they had was artificial snow pumping out in a small area, which is just plain wrong. Other slopes had snow, but were too far away and too expensive. So yeah, no ski trip.

Then we thought about going to Vegas. The bad thing was this alternative turned up too late, and it was just after Christmas when we realized that our ski trip wasn't going to happen and we thought about Vegas. We did a few searches, and the cheapest room rates at a non-dump hotel was at least 280 friggin' bucks a night. Damn the laws of supply and demand. So... no Vegas.

I guess we're just going to have a quiet New Year's eve celebration in LA. There are a few parties that are going on, and we may go to one of them. We'll see. In the meantime, we're gonna go stock up on food, 'cos almost everything is gonna be closed tomorrow, and our fridge is bare.

In the meantime, here's wishing everybody out there a HAPPY NEW YEAR! A new year brings a clean slate and a fresh new beginning. With new hopes come new dreams and new opportunities. May 2006 bring us much happiness, and may it also turn out to be the year that our #1 dream comes true!

And maybe in the process we'll finally find out what "Auld Lang Syne" actually means. CHEERS, EVERYONE!!!!
